It has fruits (drupa) 1.5-2.5 centimeters in diameter (larger in some modern varieties) with a drupe similar to a small peach. It may be yellow to orange, usually red on the sun-exposed side, with a smooth surface (botanically defined as glabrous) or velvety and very short-haired. Fruit flesh is usually firm and not very juicy. The taste can range from sweet to sour.
